Linn Grove Regular City Council Meeting
at the Linn Grove Community Center April 14, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. Mayor Graesing
called the meeting to order. Members present:
Jurgensen, Wadsley, Smith, Ellis, Weier. Members absent:
None. In Attendance:
Diane Noll, Beth Cathcart. Moved by Smith to
adopt the agenda as amended (adding Noll & Cathcart to under New Business and
“Abate the Nuisance” under City Clerk Report). Seconded by Ellis. Motion
carried. Moved by Ellis to
approve previous meeting minutes as read from March 10, 2004. Seconded by
Jurgensen. Motion carried. Mayor Graesing left
at 7:10 p.m. turning the meeting over to Mayor Pro Tem Ellis. Old Business. Abate the Nuisance
Update. Residents have complied to the “Abate the Nuisance” regarding junk and
unlicensed vehicles. Mayor Graesing returned at 7:15 p.m. Mayor Pro Tem Ellis
turned meeting back over to Mayor Graesing. New Business.
Diane Noll and Beth Cathcart expressed their desire to get more information
regarding the peddler’s fee to be charged on the day of the upcoming Jamboree.
An agreement for a single day peddler’s fee was reached between the Council and
Linn Grove Community Enhancement Foundation representatives. Approval of
Bills. Moved by Ellis to approve all bills as presented. Seconded by
Wadsley. Motion carried. General:

Report. Mayor informed council that the $3000 check has been received from
the Iowa Department of Transportation. Del’s Garden Center will be contacted
for consulting with Denny & Lynn Graesing and Becky Jessen regarding the pond
project by the mill/waterwheel. Sheri Weier arrived
at 7:35 p.m. Library Board
Report. Mayor Graesing informed Council that he received a letter from Barb
Sangl submitting her resignation from the library board effective immediately. Maintenance
Report. Linn Grove will be flushing hydrants Friday April 23rd,
2004. Blacktop patching was discussed and reviewed by Council. Town mower is
being readied for the upcoming mowing season. Chad Anderson will be doing the
mowing. Washing the streets on downtown Weaver Street was discussed. City Clerk
Report. Set Public Hearing-Code of Ordinances. Moved by Smith to set
public hearing notice regarding the City of Linn Grove proposed code of
ordinances and proposed adoption of the City’s code of ordinances for Wednesday
May 12, 2004 at 7:15 p.m. at the Linn Grove Community Center Linn Grove, IA
51033. Seconded by Wadsley. Motion carried. Set public Hearing-Amending
2003-2004 Budget. Moved by Ellis to set public hearing notice regarding
amending the budget for fiscal year 2003-2004 for Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at
7:30 p.m. at the Linn Grove Community Center at Linn Grove, Iowa 51033.
Seconded by Wadsley. Motion carried. Clean-up Day. Linn Grove will have
clean-up day on Saturday May 22nd, 2004. The following items will
have to be tagged in order for pick-up on that day: Microwaves-$12, White
Goods-$12, Tires (car tires only)-$2.50, Computer Monitors-$2.50, Large Console
TV-$5. Tags must be purchased from City Clerk by May 20th, 2004. No
bricks, rocks, or cement will be picked up. Please have your items set out by
the curb for pick-up. If you have any further question about Linn Grove
Clean-up Day please call the City Clerk at 296-0918 or 296-3931.Correspondence
Sent & Received. Check valve reminders will be sent out for those needing to
comply by June 15, 2004. Several residents of Linn Grove attended the meeting in
Truesdale regarding precinct polling places. There will be a community
meeting at the Linn Grove Community Center May 10th at 6:30 p.m.
regarding a proposal as to where and how many precincts there would be.
Upcoming Jamboree. Plans are being made for the upcoming Jamboree date is set
for June 19th, 2004. Abate the Nuisance. Moved by Wadsley to send
resident an “Order to Repair” notice. Seconded by Weier. Motion carried.
Moved by Weier to send an “Abate the Nuisance” to resident regarding building in
disrepair. Seconded by Wadsley. Motion carried.
Announcements-Open Forum. Moved by Ellis to approve request from John
Smith for a building permit a $50 fee is required. Seconded by Jurgensen.
Motion carried. Smith abstaining. Weier expressed concern about people burning
in town and leaving fires unattended. Council directed Mayor to inspect alleys
for needed maintenance and Chad Anderson will blade city alleys if needed. Moved by Smith to
adjourn. Seconded by Wadsley. Time 9:10 p.m.
