Linn Grove Regular City Council Meeting October 8, 2003 at the Linn Grove Community Center at 7:00 p.m.

 

Mayor Graesing called the meeting to order.

Members present: Smith, Wadsley, Warkentin, Ellis.

Member absent: Jurgensen.

In attendance: Crystal Klatt, Patria Jenson, Lolita Weier, Gary Brown.

Moved by Warkentin to adopt the agenda.  Seconded by Ellis.  Motion carried.

Moved by Ellis to approve previous meeting minutes as read from September 10, 2003.  Seconded by Smith.  Motion carried.

 

Old Business.

Clean-up of Property Parcel #02-08-104-015.  The house has been torn down, basement still needs more dirt for fill.  On September 18, 2003 Mayor Graesing spoke to Wetherell about property described as Lot Nine (9) Ward’s Addition Linn Grove, Iowa regarding bid.  Wetherell said he would clean-up property for $2000.  Moved by Wadsley to approve Wetherell bid for $2000 to clean-up property and haul away debris located at Lot Nine (9) Ward’s Addition Linn Grove, Iowa.  Seconded by Warkentin.  Motion carried.  RUT-County Payment.  Mayor Graesing reported to Council that he attended the Buena Vista County Board of Supervisors meeting.  Buena Vista County Board of Supervisors tabled any decision.  Next payment is due December 1, 2003.

Approval of Bills.  Moved by Smith to approve all bills as presented.  Seconded by Warkentin.  Motion carried.

Water Shut-Off Notices.  Council discussed raising the re-connect fee from $10 to $20.

 

Park Board Report.  Lolita Weier reported to Council about the landscaping around 2 of the trees located at the school memorial park.  Mayor Graesing has been in contact with the bricklayer about the possibility of still having the brick laid for the school monument yet this fall. 

 

Library Board Report.  Iowa Telecom and the library are working together regarding separate phone line and internet service for the new computers.  Modem and cable are being provided by Gates for the new computers. 

 

Maintenance Report.  Eugene Johnson is fully certified for water and sewer.  Moved by Warkentin to give Eugene Johnson a $25 a month raise effective November 1, 2003.  Seconded by Wadsley.  Motion carried.  Moved by Warkentin to send bill to First Co-op for the cost of the new water meter required at the Linn Grove Fertilizer Plant.  Seconded by Ellis.  Motion carried. 

 

City Clerk Report.  Mayor Graesing proclaimed “Trick or Treat” night October 31, 2003 for Linn Grove.  If you want the “trick or treaters” to stop at your house please have an outside light on from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Clerk informed Council that she has sent to the Buena Vista County Treasurer the unpaid property clean-up billing sent to Dean Miller for property located at Parcel #02-08-104-015 to proceed to list and collect in the same manner as the general property taxes.  Clerk informed Council that payment on the Linn Grove Community Center is due November 1st for $5807.91 leaving a balance of $33606.71 after this payment.  Clerk informed Council that collection for an unpaid utility bill #86-1 has been collected in the same manner as the general property taxes.

 

Announcements-Open Forum.  Moved by Wadsley to pay for redoing the front of the Buena Vista County Tourism brochure.  Seconded by Warkentin.  Motion carried.

 

Moved by Warkentin to adjourn.  Seconded by Wadsley.  Time 8:20 p.m.
