July 2005 Minutes
The Linn Grove Regular City Council meeting was held
on June 8, 2005 at the Linn Grove Community Center at 7:00 p.m.
Mayor Graesing called the meeting to order.
Members present: Jurgensen, Smith, Wadsley, Weier,
Ellis.
Members absent: None.
Moved by Ellis to adopt the agenda. Seconded by
Weier. Motion carried.
Moved by Ellis to correct minutes of May 19, 2005 to
reflect that the minutes from May 11, 2005 were read and approved. Seconded by
Weier. Motion carried. Moved by Ellis to approve corrected minutes from May 19,
2005. Seconded by Weier. Motion carried.
Old Business.
Abate the Nuisance. Moved by Wadsley to send
abatements to 12 property owners for overgrowth of grass, weeds or brush piles,
junk vehicles, junk and debris. Seconded by Jurgensen. Motion carried.
New Business.
Approval of Bills. Moved by Jurgensen to approve
all bills as presented. Seconded by Weier. Motion carried. General Garbage Sewer Park Board Report. Moved by
Weier to approve Mayor Graesing’s Park Board re-appointment of Larry Sangl for a
2-year term effective June 30, 2005 expiring June 30, 2007. Seconded by
Jurgensen. Motion carried. Mayor Graesing completed work on ramp located by
gazebo. Work on pathway from school monument to gazebo is near completion. Library Board Report. Moved by
Ellis to approve Mayor Graesing’s re-appointment of Faye Theeler to the library
board for a 6-year term effective June 30, 2005 expiring June 30, 2011.
Seconded by Wadsley. Motion carried. Maintenance Report. 2005
Consumer Confidence Report was posted at the Linn Grove Post Office, Linn Grove
Community Center/Library, and First State Bank. Notice was also printed on
utility billings letting the public know the report is available upon request at
the City Clerk’s office. Pete Howe Industrial did annual maintenance on storm
traps and also started a video check of sewer system. Council discussed
possibility of purchasing broom attachment for the new mower. City Clerk Report. Resolution
2005-7-Jamboree. Moved by Ellis to approve Resolution 2005-7, a Resolution
approving a 1-day waiver effective June 18, 2005 only. This Resolution is to
close north end of Linn Street from 203 Linn Street to 100 Weaver Street Linn
Grove, Iowa effective June 18, 2005 only. Also the closure of the alley running
parallel with Weaver Street and connecting Weaver Street to Linn Street located
in downtown area of Linn Grove, granting a noise variance for the Linn Grove
Community Enhancement Foundation for the beer garden until midnight of June 18,
2005. Seconded by Weier. A roll call vote was taken with the voting as
follows: Jurgensen-Aye, Wadsley-Aye, Ellis-Aye, Weier-Aye, Smith-Aye. Cigarette
Permit. Moved by Wadsley to approve cigarette permit for Bobby’s Sand Bar.
Seconded by Jurgensen. Motion carried. Smith abstaining. Moved by Ellis to
change July Council meeting from July 13, 2005 to July 20, 2005 due to
scheduling conflicts. Seconded by Wadsley. Motion carried. Moved by Ellis to
approve city clerk attending a small city workshop on July 19, 2005 registration
cost $25. Seconded by Jurgensen. Motion carried. Announcements-Open Forum.
Moved by Weier to grant use of Linn Grove Fire Station on Jamboree Day June 18,
2005 to local church youth group at no charge and giving permission to the Linn
Grove Community Enhancement Foundation use of Linn Grove Fire Station the rest
of the day. Seconded by Smith. Motion carried. Moved by Ellis to agree to
split collected peddler’s fee charge of $15 each between the City of Linn Grove
and the Linn Grove Community Enhancement Foundation, granting permission for the
Linn Grove Community Enhancement Foundation to utilize the public meeting room
of the community center throughout the day, granting permission of green space
area located north of 100 Weaver property throughout the day of June 18, 2005
only, painting mural on vacant City property located at Lot 9 Wards Addition.
Seconded by Weier. Motion carried. Moved by Ellis to adjourn.
