Linn Grove Regular City Council Meeting January 14, 2004

at the Linn Grove Community Center at 7:00 p.m.

 

Mayor Graesing called the meeting to order.

Members present: Weier, Jurgensen, Smith, Ellis, Wadsley.

Members absent: None.

In attendance: Patria Jenson.

Moved by Ellis to adopt the agenda.  Seconded by Smith.  Motion carried.

Moved by Jurgensen to approve previous meeting minutes as read from December 10, 2003.  Seconded by Weier.  Motion carried.

Marlin Weier-Snow Removal.  Marlin Weier failed to appear as listed on the agenda.

 

Old Business.

Acceptance Letter for Funding Bluff Street Bridge.  Mayor informed Council that the estimated cost for bridge project is $300,000.  Mayor informed Council that Jon Ites will be attending a future council meeting to discuss the bridge project.

 

New Business.

Approval of Bills.  Moved by Ellis to approve all bills as presented.  Seconded by Jurgensen.  Motion carried.

Park Board Report.  None.

Library Board Report.  Moved by Weier to approve replacement of Lori Jessen on the Linn Grove Library Board.  Judy Vincent being the new replacement for the unexpired term.  Seconded by Smith.  Motion carried.

 

Maintenance Report.  None.

City Clerk Report.  Moved by Smith to designate the Peterson Patriot Peterson, IA as the official newspaper for printing Linn Grove City Council minutes and official notices.  Seconded by Jurgensen.  Motion carried.  The public will be informed of special council meeting by posting of the notice at the Linn Grove Post Office, First State Bank, and Linn Grove Library; local radio stations will also be notified.  Moved by Ellis to designate the First State Bank of Linn Grove & Sioux Rapids, as the official depository for funds not to exceed $250,000 for the City of Linn Grove.  Seconded by Jurgensen.  Motion carried.  Annual employee salaries and elected officials:  Mayor $1200/yr, Council members $10 for each council meeting attended, Water/Sewer-Eugene Johnson $385/month, City Clerk/Utilities Clerk/Water Manager-Becky Jessen $675/month, Librarians-Patria Jenson, Lolita Weier, Lois Schomaker-$7.00/hour.  Clerk informed Council effective 7/1/04 the Harold Rowley Recycle Center would be raising their rates.  The annual operations assessment will be increased $2 per capita, a $422 annual increase.  Discussions for the 2004-2005 budget began.  Clerk informed Council that Neil Quirin donated $250 towards the Mill/Waterwheel project.  Clerk read correspondence sent and received throughout the month.  Moved by Ellis to send 10% ($39) the city receives from the state for liquor licensing to Northwest Iowa Alcoholism & Drug Treatment Unit for fiscal year 2004-2005.  Seconded by Jurgensen.  Motion carried.
