JUNE 2024 FLOOD INFORMATION
Water Update 08/30/2024: we are connected to rural water, but will remain on bottle advisory till next week when we can flush the lines out and complete testing. Please note that we are advising everyone to refrain from drinking the water until all flushing is complete and we are cleared on our tests. We will update you as soon as we receive this.
Water Update 08/21/2024: Attention all South Side Residents - ILRW has made great progress on gettting our connection ready to bring rural water into the south side of town. Due to ILRW now being ready to connect into our water main, residents in the following areas will see some impacts as noted below over the next few days.
Please prepare as best as you can. Remember that there are showers and toilets at the BV County Campground near the dam if needed.
Residents on W High St, Broadway and Sherman Ave will experience complete water loss Thursday August 22, 2024 and may experience off color water and pressure reduction on Friday August 23, 2024 due to ILRW connecting into the Linn Grove water main. ILRW will then need to do a major water flush once connected (you may experience pressure reduction during this time).
Any questions please contact our Water Superintendent - Neil Krummen or leave a message at the city clerks office 712.296.0918 and we will respond as soon as possible.
Thank you for your understanding and patience.
Water Update 08/04/2024: We are aware of the situation regarding no water in town as of early this morning. Unfortunately, the usage since yesterday was above normal resulting in not making it through to our scheduled delivery service tomorrow. Water delivery has been contacted but are unable to get out until this afternoon. We are doing everything we can to remedy this as quickly as possible and apologize for the inconvenience. UPDATE - Water will be here at 530PM
Water Update 07/23/2024: We needed two days of positive results and unfortunately, the city failed yesterday's water test, so we need to start over again. We continue to try and get the pumps running again so we can stop trucking in water. Please stay patient - we are almost there.
On a positive note, we have been able to get agreement to bring ILRW connection into the south side of town earlier than the main south waterline project. Thank you to everyone for getting in your water surveys!
ILRW have submitted Iowa One locate calls and are moving forward (ahead of their original schedule) so construction should begin in the near future for connection.
Water Update 07/18/24: The tower is being filled now (7am). Please be patient we should have water within 20-30mins. We are continuing with the testing and awaiting results from yesterday. In the meantime, PLEASE keep conserving your water as much as possible. Minimal laundry; let the yellow mellow etc. Thank you for all you are doing. If you received a survey form at your door please complete, sign and return to the city clerk (or dropbox downtown) immediately to help us get our water project underway - we are trying to get ILRW connected into the south side of town sooner rather than later.
If you need drinking water, please contact the city clerk via email or text if you need assistance. If you have any flood damage, please make sure you are registering this on the FEMA link - see details below. We are expecting to receive more guidance on this in the upcoming days.
Water Update 07/08/24: Linn Grove is still under conservation of water as per previous advisories. Thank you for all you are doing. We are working diligently to get us up and running again. If you need drinking water, please contact the city clerk via email or text if you need assistance. If you have any flood damage, please make sure you are registering this on the FEMA link - see details below.
Water Update 06/28/24: Linn Grove has received another shipment of drinking water. If you are in need of drinking water please come and pick up from outside the community center.
We are still needing to conserve our water usage. The water is not safe for drinking or cooking but should be fine for everything else. Please limit your showers to short showers, laundry to only necessary clothing (no bedding at this time) etc. We are targeting next Wednesday for the well to get back into service.
Linn Grove received a shipment of bottled water on Sunday 06/23/24 and distributed to all south side residents in town. We are looking to obtain another shipment. Please contact city clerks office and leave a message at 712-296-0918 if you are in need of drinking water urgently. Hours of pick up will be setup shortly but for now will be by appointment.
Linn Grove received 2 tanker truck loads of water yesterday and the tower is near full again. We should still try and conserve water as best as possible as it may take a while to get our city well back up and running. We will continue with the importing of water via tanker trucks to get us through these troubling times. Sewer pumps are going so that concern is alleviated for the time being.
Linn Grove / BV Veterans Bridge is reopened for traffic.

Disaster Recovery Funds Activated in Response to Flooding
Provides relief, support and response to disaster declared counties
NEWS RELEASE – Des Moines, IA – Disaster Recovery Funds (DRFs) have been activated across the region in support of vulnerable populations following recent severe flooding. The DRFs provide an opportunity for the public to give, with the reassurance that donations will be quickly moved to resources where they are needed most to adapt to evolving priorities. The flexibility of the funds ensures counties and communities can respond to supplement needs being provided by existing nonprofit, local, state and federal programs.
The following communities have activated or established DRFs:
• Buena Vista County Community Foundation https://www.desmoinesfoundation.org/BVDisasterRecovery
“Iowans are resilient and have a history of coming together in times of crisis, flooding and disaster,” said Kristi Knous, president of the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines. “Our proven track record demonstrates that we are better together, and this collaborative spirit will once again prevail as we support our neighbors in need.”
Funds received will first focus on disproportionately affected communities by addressing economic barriers and health impacts of populations negatively impacted by disaster in each local jurisdiction. The long-term application of the funds will focus on additional needs that are not already being met that may inevitably arise. Grants will be provided to community-based organizations and service providers active in current response and will not be made available for individual application. Local community leaders will work together to identify recipients with deep roots in the communities listed above and experience to deliver support and services to vulnerable populations in moments of crisis.
Contributions may also be mailed to the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, 1915 Grand Ave, Des Moines, IA 50309. Please note the fund you wish to support. Call (515) 883-2626 with any questions.
